WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Augusto “Augie” Domingos Acabou, was a lifelong Newark resident born and raised in Newark’s Ironbound section; and
WHEREAS, Augusto “Augie” Domingos Acabou, an outstanding athlete, “Augie” was an entertainer at heart, full of life and endeared himself to others through his good-nature antics and a desire to make people feel good about themselves; and
WHEREAS, Augusto joined the City of Newark, Department of Public Safety, Fire Division in 2013 and was stationed at Engine 16 in his beloved Ironbound community and was one of two Newark firefighters, who tragically lost their lives courageously fighting onboard a container ship at the Newark Port.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Murray Street and Goble Street “Captain Augie Acabou Way”.
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Murray Street and Goble Street in their entirety.
STATEMENT
This Resolution authorizes the naming of the intersection of Murray Street and Goble Street to “Captain Augie Acabou Way”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
