Whereas, on January 9, 2012 the Department of Water & Sewer Utilities was notified that significant erosion had occurred along the Pequannock Aqueduct, in the Township of Pequannock, and the pipe was exposed. Upon inspection it was found that the soil around the drainage ditch adjacent to the 42-inch Pequannock Aqueduct had eroded the soil embankment protecting the pipe, and additional erosion could occur during heavy rain event to undermine the pipe and the adjacent 48-inch Pequannock Aqueduct; and

Whereas, due to the location of the Aqueducts between a drainage ditch and a swampy wooded area known to be wetlands, Hatch Mott MacDonald, 27 Bleeker Street, Millburn, New Jersey 07041, an engineering consultant having knowledge of the Aqueducts and the ability and experience to obtain the NJDEP permits that are needed, was contacted by the Engineering Consultant of the Department of Water & Sewer Utilities, to inspect the site and assess the condition...
