WHEREAS, Mr. Stephen N. Adubato was an educator for fifteen years in the Newark Public School System; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Adubato served on the Executive Board of the Newark Teacher's Union and worked as the Teacher's Union Legislative Representative; and
WHEREAS, beginning in 1970 an era of instability and uncertainty Mr. Adubato founded the North Ward Center in a storefront on Bloomfield, in Newark and has since built it into the thriving institution it is today; and

WHEREAS, given his strong commitment to education it is no surprise that one of the first programs created by the North Ward Center was the North Ward Child Development Center. Today this preschool is one of the largest Abbott preschools in New Jersey, educating 700 children each year; and

WHEREAS, in 1980, The North Ward Center established the Newark Burliness Training Institute. NBTI has helped thousands of adults transitions from welfare to work and returned more than $1 billion into the State's economy; and

WHEREAS, the crowning of Mr. Adubato's life long dedication to education is the Robert Treat Academy Charter School which Mr. Adubato founded in 1997. This Blue Ribbon school with a national reputation enrolls 450 students in grades K-8.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT: it does hereby designate Monday, October 28, 2013 as "Stephen N. Adubato day" within the City of Newark and extend sincere best wishes to him for continued success in his future endeavors.
