AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23:5-5. PARKING LIMITED TO TWO (2) HOURS, OF TITLE 23, TRAFFIC AND PARKING, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY ADDING THE WEST SIDE OF NORTH FIFTH STREET BETWEEN ROPES PLACE AND ANTHONY STREET.

WHEREAS, the Division of Traffic and Signals and the Newark Parking Authority desire to amend the ordinance that restricts parking to two (2) hours along the west side of North Fifth Street between Ropes Place and Anthony Street to restrict commuters who use the NJ Transit Light Rail Station from parking all day on No. 5th Street; and
WHEREAS, the two (2) hour parking restriction from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, will improve traffic flow and encourage parking space turnover for business, customers and visitors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
Section 1. That Section 23:5-5, Parking Limited to Two (2) Hours, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, be amended thereto by adding as follows:
-North Fifth Street, from Ropes Place to Anthony Street
-West side, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., except Saturday and Sunday
Section 2. Any existing ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication and in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.
Section 4. This ordinance does not require approval by the Commissioner of Transportation.
STATEMENT
This ordinance limits parking to two (2) hours, Monday through Friday on the west side of North Fifth Street between Ropes Place and Anthony Street, in the North Ward.
