WHEREAS, on February 11, 2016, a delegation headed by Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, visited Accra, Ghana, West Africa ("Accra") where a Sister City Agreement (the "Agreement") was signed between Government officials of Accra and Newark, New Jersey, to benefit both cities economically, culturally and educationally and in other areas; and
WHEREAS, Government officials of Accra would like to do a reciprocal visit to the City of Newark to fulfill one of the tenets of the Agreement in the areas of legislature, business and a City Staff Exchange Program; and
WHEREAS, the Lord Mayor, Honorable Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije of Accra has requested the assistance of the Newark Municipal Council in processing the visa applications for the Accra Delegation scheduled to visit Saturday, April 30, 2016 through Thursday, May 12, 2016.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council supports the visa application of Lord Mayor, the Honorable Dr. Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije and his Delegation from Accra, Ghana, West Africa for the official signing ceremony of a Sister City Agreement with the City of Newark, New Jersey, during their visit scheduled for Saturday, April 30, 2016 through May 12, 2016.
2. A certified copy of this resolution shall be forwarded to the United States Diplomatic Mission in Ghana and to our Congressional Delegation along with the visiting Delegation from Accra, Gh...
