AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23:15-2, MULTI-WAY STOP INTERSECTIONS, OF TITLE 23, TRAFFIC AND PARKING, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY DESIGNATING PENNINGTON STREET AND HERMON STREET, IN THE EAST WARD, AS A MULTI-WAY STOP SIGN INTERSECTION.

Body

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, in response to a recommendation in the South Street Elementary School Traffic Impact Study, desires to designate Pennington Street and Hermon Street a multi-way stop sign intersection; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, completed a multi-way stop control warrant study on February 26, 2016, as per the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and this intersection met the conditions for a multi-way stop sign intersection; and

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, desires to improve safety at the intersection of Pennington Street and Hermon Street, in the East Ward, by requiring drivers to stop at all approaches before entering the intersection.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

Section 1. Section 23:15-2, Multi-way Stop Intersections, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, be amended by adding thereto the following:

Pennington Street and Hermon Street (East Ward)

Section 2. Any ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with this ordinance are hereby repealed.

Section 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication and in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.

Section 4. This ordinance does not require approval by the Commissioner of Transportation.
