Whereas, Ordinance 6PSF-E, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
Whereas, Mr. Richard A. Whitten, Sr. was a dedicated and committed Newark-born and raised community activist, who was very active in improving the quality of life of Newark residents and served in the leadership of numerous influential organizations such as the Weequahic Park Association, Executive Board Member of the Greater Newark Conservancy, past Commander of the American Legion Post 152 and a lifetime NAACP member, to name a few.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the naming of the corner of Girard Place and Randolph Place as Richard A. Whitten, Sr. Plaza.
2. The names of said streets shall remain Girard Place and Randolph Place in their entirety.
STATEMENT:
This resolution hereby authorizes the naming of the corner of Girard Place and Randolph Place as Richard A. Whitten, Sr. Plaza, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
