WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Sharonda Coleman Singleton was a long-time Newark resident before relocating to South Carolina, and has numerous family members who still reside in the City of Newark; and
WHEREAS, unfortunately, Ms. Sharonda Coleman Singleton was one of the eight (8) victims heinously slain by a White supremacist during a prayer service at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in South Carolina in 2015.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of corners of Pine Grove Terrace and Grove Terrace, as Sharonda Coleman Singleton Way.
2. The name of the said streets shall remain Pine Grove Terrace and Grove Terrace in its entirety.
STATEMENT:
This resolution hereby authorizes the naming of the corners of Pine Grove Terrace and Grove Terrace, as Sharonda Coleman Singleton Way, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
