WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, the Newark Brazilian Celebration Committee is joining with its residents, business owners, pioneers and political figures from the City of Newark, New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, Chambers Street holds a great deal of history representing the Newark Brazilian Community and its festival is held on the first weekend of September; and
WHEREAS, the Governing Body is seeking to maintain this legacy among Newark residents by honoring the many successful years and contributions of the Newark Brazilian Community by paying tribute to the area they call “Brazil Square” for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Chambers Street and Ferry Street as “Brazil Square”.
2. The official names of the said streets shall remain Chambers Street and Ferry Street in their entirety.

This resolution hereby authorizes the naming of the intersection of Chambers Street and Ferry Street, as “Brazil Square” for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
