WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Miguel "Mike" A. Rivera, long-time Manager of External Affairs for Verizon Communications, was known throughout the State of New Jersey and the City of Newark for his strong commitment and advocacy towards improving and increasing Latino participation and standing in the economic, social, and political sectors of society; and

WHEREAS, "Mike" as he was affectionately known, received numerous community awards and recognitions for his staunch support of Latino organizations and causes and served on many boards and organizations, none more rewarding than his thirty-three (33) years of passionate service to C.U.R.A, Inc. (Community United for the Rehabilitation of the Addict), where he served as Chairman of the Board of Trustees; and

WHEREAS, during his long and distinguished career, Miguel "Mike" A. Rivera, was well loved and respected throughout the Puerto Rican/Latino community and became known to many as an advocate, a supporter, a mentor, a leader, a follower and friend.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
