Title

AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 23:15-2, MULTI-WAY STOP INTERSECTIONS, OF TITLE 23, TRAFFIC AND PARKING, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY DESIGNATING SUSSEX AVENUE AND NEWARK STREET AS A MULTI-WAY STOP SIGN INTERSECTION. WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, completed a multi-way stop control warrant study on December 3, 2018, as per the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), the intersection approaches of Sussex Avenue and Newark Street, in the Central Ward, met the conditions for a multi-way stop sign intersection; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, desires to improve safety at the intersection of Sussex Avenue and Newark Street, in the Central Ward, by requiring drivers to stop at all approaches before entering the intersection.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

Section 1.  That Section 23:15-2, Multi-way Stop Intersections, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, be amended by adding thereto the following:

 

Sussex Avenue and Newark Street

 

Section 2.                     Any ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with this ordinance are hereby repealed.

 

Section 3.                     This ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication and in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.

 

Section 4.                     This ordinance does not require approval by the Commissioner of Transportation.

 

STATEMENT

 

This ordinance authorizes the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, to improve safety at the intersection of Sussex Avenue and Newark Street, in the Central Ward, by placing Stop signs on all four approaches, thereby requiring drivers to stop at all approaches before entering the intersection, and designates this intersection as a Multi-way Stop Intersection.
