WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, for over fifty (50) years the late Monsignor William J. Linder was a driving force in many civic and religious communities throughout the State of New Jersey and a powerful and influential leader in the City of Newark; and
WHEREAS, Monsignor William J. Linder, who with several members of his Queen of Angels parish, co-founded the nationally known and recognized model for community empowerment, New Community Corporation, which under his visionary leadership developed into one of America’s largest and most successful low and moderate non-profit housing organizations, providing close to 2,000 housing units for families and the elderly in three (3) New Jersey cities, as well as, other essential services such as child care, education, job training, and health care.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of 14th Avenue and Jones Street as Monsignor William J. Linder Way.
2. The official name of the said street shall remain 14th Avenue and Jones Street in their entirety.
STATEMENT
This resolution hereby authorizes the naming of the intersection of 14th Avenue and Jones Street as Monsignor William J. Linder Way, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
