WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Raul Lopez, a Newark resident for over sixty (60) years, has dedicated most of his life to law enforcement, in addition to being recognized as a trailblazer for Hispanics in law enforcement; and
WHEREAS, he became one of the first Hispanic officers to serve in the Newark Housing Authority’s Police Force and later as one of the first Hispanic law enforcement officers for the County of Essex; and
WHEREAS, the sincere admiration he receives from the community for his many years of service, has endeared him to the residents of Newark as one of its great public servants.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Garside Street as Raul Lopez Way.
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain 3rd Avenue and Garside Street in their entirety.

This resolution authorizes the naming of the intersection of 3rd Avenue and Garside Street as Raul Lopez Way, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
