WHEREAS, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, Division of Food and Nutrition, reimburses the City of Newark for meals served to children who live in areas in which at least 50% of the children qualify for free or reduced-price meals under the National School Lunch Program; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark provides nutritious meals and snacks to children in Newark through SuNuP and is in need of additional funding to sustain the program and continue the provision of meals for Summer 2019; and
WHEREAS, on March 8, 2019, on behalf of the City of Newark, the Director of the Department of Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Senior Services submitted an application to the New Jersey Department of Agriculture, Division of Food and Nutrition, requesting grant funding in the amount of $1,573,004.12 from the Summer Food Service Program to provide free, nutritious meals and snacks to children in Newark through SuNuP; and
