WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PDF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Mother Willie Mariah Ward Brown was the consummate public servant who served the City of Newark and its residents faithfully in various capacities and occupations throughout out her life, including being employed by the City of Newark, the International Youth Organization and the Leaguers; and
WHEREAS, Mother Brown was a faithful member of the Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church where she held leadership position including being an Ordained Church Mother on the Mother's Board and President of the Missionary Circle; and
WHEREAS, Mother Brown counseled numerous families, at-risk youths and individuals in the areas of crisis, addiction and family issues, working tirelessly to improve their lives with unwavering passion, understanding and pride.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Wright Street and Clinton Avenue "Mother Willie Brown Way".
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Wright Street and Clinton Avenue in their entirety.
