WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PDF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Michael Carson, a devoted and lifelong Newark resident, became involved at an early age as an active member of Newark and Essex County politics. He would later be appointed and served for many years as a Commissioner for the Essex County Board of Elections; and
WHEREAS, Michael Carson was a faithful member of Newark’s Republican Party and rose through the ranks to assume party leadership as the long-serving Chairman of the North Ward Republican Committee.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Summer Avenue and Nursery Street, “Michael Carson Boulevard”.
2. The official name of said streets shall remain Summer Avenue and Nursery Street in their entirety.
