WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PDF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Johnny “Tito” Carmona, was born in Puerto Rico and migrated to New Jersey at the age of twenty-four (24); and
WHEREAS, “Tito”, was a successful business owner and founded the popular Tito’s Unisex Salon at the corner of Mount Prospect Avenue and Verona Avenue, which he operated for over twenty-five (25) years; and
WHEREAS, “Tito” was a fervent baseball player and in 1990 founded the Leones of Ponce (the “Lions of Ponce”) baseball league, which allowed him and others to enjoy work, friendship and their passion for baseball for many years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council hereby authorizes the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Mount Prospect Avenue and Verona Avenue as “Johnny “Tito” Carmona Way”.
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Mt. Prospect Avenue and Verona Avenue in their entirety.

This resolution authorizes the renaming of the intersection of Mount Prospect Avenue and Verona Avenue as “Johnny “Tito” Carmona Way” for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
