WHEREAS, the Honorable Mildred C. Crump, who was born, raised and educated in Detroit, Michigan, became a trailblazer and promoter of women rights, empowerment and equality throughout her lifetime of enormous achievements and firsts: the first African-American Braille teacher in Detroit, the first African-American Braille teacher in the State of New Jersey, the first African-American woman to win election as Council Member-at-Large and the first African-American woman to hold the position of Newark Municipal Council President; and

WHEREAS, undoubtedly one of the most politically influential and astute politicians in the State of New Jersey, Municipal Council President Mildred C. Crump, was active with numerous city, state, and national organizations and civic groups, including the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Board of Directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Newark, Chairman of the Board for the Habitat for Humanity, Newark Branch NAACP Golden Heritage Life Member, founding member of the NJ Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., founder of the Newark Women's Conference, Inc., in addition to her faithful service with Bethany Baptist Church of Newark; and

WHEREAS, the Honorable Mildred C. Crump received numerous honors, recognitions and accolades, including, but not limited to, the first African-American female selected as a "Garden State Woman of the Year" recipient by the prestigious Garden State Woman Magazin...
