WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, like the Spanish Flu of 1918, the Covid-19 pandemic will long be remembered, not only for the millions of lives lost and their families hurt and pain, but also for the untold numbers of selfless and courageous individuals, many of whom were first responders, who without second thought, risked their lives so that others may live; and

WHEREAS, unnamed and anonymous EMTs, paramedics, firefighters, police officers, nurses, doctors and other front-line health professionals, provided outstanding care, concern and compassion with an unwavering dedication and commitment to the Newark community without concern for their own personal safety; and

WHEREAS, without a doubt, Newark's "First Responders" are real-life superheroes, well deserving of an honor and recognition befitting the City's gratitude and appreciation for their selfless acts of courage.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Jay Street and Sussex Avenue as "Hero's Way".
