WHEREAS, the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation ("NJDOT") FY 2023 Transit Village Grant Program provides municipalities with grant funding for bicycle lane projects; and

WHEREAS, the City of Newark (the "City") seeks to obtain funding from the FY 2023 Transit Village Grant Program, to provide access to the Newark Central Business District for bicyclists, by creating a two-way separated bikeway along the Morris Canal Greenway; and

WHEREAS, the City intends to further the public interest by obtaining funding from the NJDOT FY 2023 Transit Village Grant Program for the construction of a two-way separated bikeway along the Morris Canal Greenway (the "Newark Morris Canal Bikeway Project"); and

WHEREAS, on July 1, 2022, on behalf of the City of Newark, the Acting Director of the Department of Engineering, submitted an application, identified as TV-2023-Newark Morris Canal Bikeway - 00004 to NJDOT requesting grant funding in the amount of Five Hundred Sixty-Five Thousand Six Hundred Sixty-Four Hundred and Zero Cents ($565,664.00) from the NJDOT FY 2023 Transit Village Grant Program, for construction of the Newark Morris Canal ...
