WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc., for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Robert L. Morrast was born August 26, 1942, in Evergreen (Conecuh County, Alabama). He was ordained and licensed to preach in 1972 at the Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, under the Pastorate of the late Reverend Leonard Shamberger. On June 9, 1974, Pastor Morrast was called to pastor the Saint Peters Missionary Baptist Church, where he continues to serve; and

WHEREAS, Pastor Robert L Morrast, a great humanitarian, continues to impact the various communities with distribution of food, shelter, clothing and furniture, not just in the City of Newark, but throughout the State of New Jersey. In addition to an outstanding reputation as a pastor, counselor, lecturer and volunteer to many, he is an influential community leader and a vital asset to the City of Newark residents.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

1. The Municipal Council hereby authorizes the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of South 12th Street and West Market Street as "Rev. Robert L. Morrast Plaza."

2. The official name of the said streets shall remain South 12th Street and West Market Street in their entirety.
