WHEREAS, Autism is the fastest growing developmental disability in the world; and
WHEREAS, Autism Awareness Day is an internationally recognized day annually on April 2nd; and
WHEREAS, World Autism Awareness Month is an internationally recognized month annually each April; and
WHEREAS,
during World Autism Awareness Month, there is an effort to focus on sharing stories and the provision of opportunities to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism; and
WHEREAS, inner city communities are often and more likely to be less informed with valuable information and underserved with resources regarding autism; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark will sponsor the Second Annual Autism Awareness Family Fun and Resource Day at Mulberry Commons Park on Sunday, April 2, 2023.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council proclaims April 2, 2023 Autism Awareness Day and the month of April 2023 as World Autism Awareness Month throughout the City of Newark, New Jersey.
2. A copy of this Resolution shall be filed with the Office of the City Clerk.
STATEMENT
This Resolution proclaims Municipal Council support of Autism Awareness Day and World Autism Awareness Month to create awareness of the unique educational, vocational and day-to-day life needs of people who are autistic for the month of April 2023 throughout the City of Newark, New Jersey.
