WHEREAS, the City of Newark, Department of Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Senior Services, Division of Recreation and Cultural Affairs is dedicated and committed to providing cultural and artistic activities for the City of Newark’s residents; and
WHEREAS, the Division of Recreation and Cultural Affairs, desires to continue to create opportunities and cultural growth of the City’s youth (ages 7 to 17) from all wards through various cultural programs; and
WHEREAS, the Division of Recreation and Cultural Affairs submitted an application for a transportation grant from Newark Public Radio Incorporated, WBGO 88.3 Kid’s Jazz in the amount of Eight Hundred and Twenty-Five Dollars and Zero Cents ($825.00) for youth to attend three concert events for Saturday, October 1, 2016; November 19, 2016 and December 3, 2016 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the application, the City of Newark has been awarded a grant in the amount of Eight Hundred and Twenty-Five Dollars and Zero Cents ($825.00); and
WHEREAS, the Division of Recreation and Cultural Affairs will provide transportation for 45 youth (ages 7 to 17), from the City’s six Recreation Centers to three separate events Saturday, October 1, 2016; November 19, 2016 and December 3, 2016 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm; and
WHEREAS, the first concert location is scheduled for Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at the Cecily Tyson School for the Performing and Visual Arts, 161 Elmwood Avenue, East Orange, New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, the second concert location is scheduled for Saturday, November 19, 2016 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at the Newark Museum, 49 Washington Street, Newark, New Jersey 07102; and
WHEREAS, the third concert location is scheduled for Saturday, December 3, 2016 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm at the South Orange Performing Arts Center, 1 SOPAC Way, South Orange, New Jersey 07079; and
WHEREAS, no City matching funds or commitment of municipal resources are required to accept the grant funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Senior Services are hereby authorized to submit an application to Newark Public Radio Incorporated, WBGO 88.3 requesting funding in the amount of Eight Hundred Twenty-Five Dollars and Zero Cents ($825.00) to provide bus transportation for youth to attend three separate WBGO 88.3 Kid’s Jazz Concert Series with no municipal funds required.
2. The Municipal Council hereby ratifies its authorization of the application from the date of the application submission to the date of adoption of this authorizing resolution.
3. The grant award in the amount of Eight Hundred Twenty-Five Dollars and Zero Cents ($825.00) is accepted.
4. The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Senior Services are authorized to enter into and execute grant documents and expend the funds for the purpose of providing transportation for 45 youths (ages 7 to 17), from the City’s six Recreation Centers to three separate events Saturday, October 1, 2016; November 19, 2016 and December 3, 2016 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm.
5. There shall be no amendment or change of the authorities granted herein without Municipal Council approval.
6. No municipal funds or resources are required for receipt of acceptance of this grant award.
7. The Director of the Department of Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Senior Services shall file a fully executed copy of the grant application, the grant award letter and the grant agreement in the Office of the City Clerk.
STATEMENT
This resolution ratifies and authorizes the Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Recreation, Cultural Affairs and Senior Services to accept a transportation service grant award of Eight Hundred Twenty-Five Dollars and Zero Cents ($825.00) to cover the cost of transporting 45 children (7 to 17) ages to attend three separate WBGO Kid’s Jazz Concert Series from the City’s six Recreation Centers on Saturday, October 1, 2016; November 19, 2016 and December 3, 2016 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm. No municipal funds are required.
