AN ORDINANCE AMENDING TITLE 23, TRAFFIC AND PARKING, SECTION 23:15-2, MULTI-WAY STOP INTERSECTIONS, OF THE REVISED GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, 2000, AS AMENDED AND SUPPLEMENTED, BY DESIGNATING NEW YORK AVENUE AND PACIFIC STREET AS A MULTI-WAY STOP SIGN INTERSECTION. WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, completed a multi-way stop control warrant study on December 6, 2022, as per the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), the intersection approaches of New York Avenue and Pacific Street, in the East Ward, met the conditions for a multi-way stop sign intersection; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, desires to improve safety at the intersection of New York Avenue and Pacific Street, in the East Ward, by requiring drivers to stop at all approaches before entering the intersection.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
Section 1. That Section 23:15-2, Multi-way Stop Intersections, of Title 23, Traffic and Parking, of the Revised General Ordinances of the City of Newark, New Jersey, 2000, as amended and supplemented, be amended by adding thereto the following:
New York Avenue and Pacific Street
Section 2. Any ordinances or parts thereof inconsistent with this Ordinance are hereby repealed.
Section 3. This Ordinance shall take effect upon final passage and publication and in accordance with the laws of the State of New Jersey.
Section 4. This Ordinance does not require approval by the Commissioner of Transportation.
STATEMENT
This Ordinance authorizes the Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, to improve safety at the intersection of New York Avenue and Pacific Street, in the East Ward, by placing stop signs on all four (4) approaches, thereby requiring drivers to stop at all approaches before entering the intersection, and designates this intersection as a Multi-way Stop Intersection.
