This Resolution authorizes the City of Newark to apply for grant funding in the amount of $2,237,520.00 from the NJDOT FY2027Safe Streets to Transit Program, with no municipal funds required

WHEREAS, the State of New Jersey Department of Transportation ("NJDOT") provides grant funding for infrastructure improvements for traditional and non-traditional transportation initiatives that enable and encourage walking and bicycling to transit through the FY2027 Safe Streets to Transit Program (the, "SST Program"); and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark (the "City") desires to obtain funding from the FY2027 SST Program to improve transportation infrastructure within one mile of Davenport Station (the designated limit of improvements paid for by the SST Program); and
WHEREAS, on or about July 1, 2026, the Acting Director of the Department of Engineering has submitted an electronic grant application to NJDOT on the City's behalf requesting grant funding from the FY2027 SST Program in the amount of Two Million Two Hundred Thirty-Seven Thousand Five Hundred Twenty Dollars and Zero Cents ($2,237,520.00) to improve transportation infrastructure within one mile of Davenport Station, with no City funds required; and
WHEREAS, as a part of the grant application, a copy of which is attached hereto, the City is required to submit a resolution from the Municipal Council authorizing the submission of the grant application.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Mayor and/or his designee, the Acting Director of the Department of Engineering, are hereby authorized to submit an electronic grant application to the New Jersey Department of Transportation ("NJDOT") on behalf of the City of Newark ("City") requesting grant funding in the amount of Two Million Two Hundred Thirty Seven Thousand Five Hundred Twenty Dollars and Zero Cents ($2,237,520.00) from the NJDOT FY2027 Safe Streets to Transit Program (SST Program) for the purpose of improving transportation infrastructure within a one mile of Davenport Station, with no City funds required (a copy of the application is attached hereto and made a part hereof).
2. The Municipal Council ratifies its authorization of this application from this date of the application submission to the date of this authorizing resolution.
3. The Acting Director of the Department of Engineering shall cause a final copy of the grant application to be filed in the Office of the City Clerk.
STATEMENT
This Resolution authorizes the Mayor and/or his designee, the Acting Director of the Department of Engineering, to submit an electronic grant application for grant funding from the New Jersey Department of Transportation's 2027 Safe Streets to Transit Program in the amount of $2,237,520.00, to improve transportation infrastructure within a one mile of Davenport Station. No municipal funds are required.
