WHEREAS, President Barack Obama signed into law the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) on March 23, 2010, which provided comprehensive health insurance reforms and a Patient’s Bill of Rights; and
WHEREAS, this Act made healthcare more accessible, affordable and of high quality for families, seniors, businesses, and taxpayers, most importantly providing care to previously uninsured Americans allowing for adequate health coverage; and
WHEREAS, the movement to repeal the Act would result in nearly 30 million Americans and their children to lose health insurance coverage; and
WHEREAS, the continued implementation of the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) is critical to addressing challenges in our health system by strengthening Medicare, providing benefits to women, expanding young adult coverage, and holding insurance companies accountable, while shifting the focus on treating the sick to keeping more than 138 million Americans healthy.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCILOF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Newark Municipal Council supports the preservation of the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare).
2. A copy of this resolution shall be forwarded to the Office of the President-Elect, Donald J. Trump, Speaker of the House, Paul D. Ryan, Jr. and the Majority Leader of the Senate, Addison “Mitch” McConnell, Jr.
STATEMENT
This resolution hereby declares the Newark Municipal Council support of the Affordable Care Act (ObamaCare) its preservation, security, and expansion for the health and care of all Americans.
