WHEREAS, an emergency has arisen in the Special Item of Appropriation in the amount of One Million, Nine Hundred Eighteen Thousand, Seven Hundred Forty-One Dollars and Seventy-Five Cents ($1,918,741.75), for the SuNuP Summer Food Service Program and no adequate provision has been made in the 2026 Temporary Budget for the aforesaid purpose and N.J.S.A. 40A:4-20 provides for the creation of an emergency appropriation for the purpose above-mentioned; and
WHEREAS, by the Notice of letter dated April 17, 2026, the New Jersey Department of Agriculture (“NJDA”), Division of Food and Nutrition (“Division”) Summer Food Service awarded the City of Newark funds in the amount of One Million, Nine Hundred Eighteen Thousand, Seven Hundred Forty-One Dollars and Seventy-Five Cents ($1,918,741.75). The aforementioned program will provide funds for the provision of meal services to children through the City’s SuNuP Program and supportive services to the residents of the City of Newark; and
WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 40A: 4-20 provides that the Governing Body, by a two-thirds vote, may make temporary emergency appropriations for any purpose for which appropriations may lawfully be made for the period between the beginning of the current fiscal year and the date of the adoption of the budget for said year; and
WHEREAS, emergency appropriation adopted in 2026, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A: 4-20 including this Resolution total………………$ 324,338,445.31
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Governing Body by a two-thirds vote of its full membership hereby amends its temporary budget by making the following temporary emergency appropriation:
2. A temporary emergency appropriation be and the same is hereby made for the following classification.

3. The temporary emergency appropriation shall be provided for in the 2026 budget.
4. A copy of this Resolution shall be filed with the Director of Local Government Services by the City Clerk.
STATEMENT
This Resolution establishes the temporary emergency appropriation for the SuNuP Summer Food Service Program FY 2026, in the amount of One Million, Nine Hundred Eighteen Thousand, Seven Hundred Forty-One Dollars and Seventy-Five Cents ($1,918,741.75). The New Jersey Department of Agriculture (“NJDA”), Division of Food and Nutrition (“Division”), Summer Food Service Program, awarded the funds. The project period is June 29, 2026, through August 28, 2026.
