WHEREAS, the City of Newark (the “City) has the authority over the Newark City Hall, 920 Broad Street, Newark, New Jersey 07102; and
WHEREAS, the City is interested in supporting veterans by improving access to services to which veterans may be entitled; and
WHEREAS, the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (the “NJDMAVA”), 101 Eggerts Crossing Road, Lawrenceville, New Jersey 08648, is responsible for the management and operation of State Veterans Services in New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, the City has agreed to partner with the NJDMAVA by providing office space at no cost, to establish a Veterans Service Office (VSO) in City Hall, 920 Broad Street, Newark, New Jersey and/or within its public buildings; and
WHEREAS, this agreement is for one (1) year, with an option to renew yearly until it is terminated by one of the parties.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee, the Business Administrator (BA), are authorized, to enter into and execute a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (the “NJDMAVA”), and the City of Newark (the “City”), to provide office space to NJDMAVA within City Hall, 920 Broad Street, Newark, New Jersey and/or within its public buildings to support our veterans.
2. This MOA shall remain in force and effect from June 1, 2024 through May 31, 2025, with yearly options to renew.
3. Both parties can terminate this MOA with a thirty (30) day written notice.
4. The Municipal Council ratifies its authorization from June 1, 2024 to the date of adoption of this authorizing Resolution.
5. No municipal funds will be expended to enter into this MOA.
6. A copy of the fully executed MOA and all supporting documents shall be filed in the Office of the City Clerk by the Business Administrator.
STATEMENT
This Resolution ratifies and authorizes the Mayor of the City of Newark, and/or his designee, the Business Administrator to enter into and execute a Memorandum of Agreement with New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (“NJDMAVA”), 101 Eggerts Crossing Road, Lawrenceville, New Jersey 08648, for office space within within City Hall, 920 Broad Street, Newark, New Jersey and/or within its public buildings to provide services to veterans within the City of Newark. This agreement will commence on June 1, 2024 until May 31, 2025, with yearly options to renew, if not terminated according to the MOA.
