                          WHEREAS, an emergency has arisen in Special Item of Appropriation for $630,000.00, to provide the Clean Fleet Electric Vehicles Incentive Program and no adequate provision has been made in the 2025 Temporary Budget for the aforesaid purpose; and

 

                     WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 40A:4-20 provides for the creation of an emergency appropriation for the purpose above-mentioned; and

                                          

                     WHEREAS, by the award notice issued May 1, 2024, the State of New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) has awarded the City of Newark Clean Fleet Electric Vehicles Incentive Program funding in the amount of $630,000.00 to improve New Jersey’s air quality for a better environment for all residents and to assist Local and State Government entities in transitioning to electrically-powered fleets; and

 

                     WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 40A:4-20 provides that the Governing Body by a two-thirds vote may make temporary emergency appropriations for any purpose for which appropriations may lawfully be made for the period between the beginning of the current fiscal year and the date of the adoption of the Budget for said year; and

 

                     WHEREAS, emergency appropriations adopted in 2025, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:4-20, including this Resolution total $630,000.00.

 

                 NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, (no less than two-thirds of the members thereof concurring), THAT:

 

1.                     A temporary emergency appropriation be and the same is 

                              hereby made for the following classification:

2.                     Said emergency appropriation shall be provided for in the 2025 Budget.

 

3.                     A copy of this Resolution shall be immediately filed with the Director of Local Government Services by the City Clerk.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

This Resolution establishes a revenue and appropriation to provide the Clean Fleet Electric Vehicles Incentive Program in the amount of $630,000.00.   The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU) is providing the grant funds. The project period is May 1, 2024 through May 1, 2026.
