                     WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 40A:4-87 provides that the Director of the Division Local Government Services (the “Director”) may approve the insertion of any Special Item of Revenue in the budget of any local unit when such item shall have been made available by law and the amount thereof shall not have been determined at the time of the adoption of the Budget; and

 

                     WHEREAS, the Director may approve the insertion of an appropriation item of equal amount; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Justice Innovation, Inc. d/b/a the Center for Justice Innovation has made available One Hundred Seventy Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($170,000.00) for the purchase of surveillance cameras to address violent crimes; and

 

WHEREAS, by an initial award letter dated November 2, 2021, from the Center for Justice Innovation and a notice of grant modification dated August 26, 2024, the City of Newark was awarded One Hundred Seventy Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($170,000.00) to address violent crimes through the purchase of surveillance cameras.

 

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The City of Newark hereby requests the Director of Local Government Services to approve the insertion of an item of revenue in the amount of One Hundred Seventy Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($170,000.00) and an appropriation of an equal amount for the purchase of surveillance cameras to address violent crimes in the Budget year 2024 as set forth in Schedule A, attached hereto and made a part hereof.

 

2.                     The aforesaid insertion is, in the opinion of the Governing Body, warranted and authorized by N.J.S.A. 40A:4-87 and are necessary for the orderly operation of the municipality.

 

3.                     Two (2) copies of this Resolution shall be filed with the Director of the Division of Local Government Services by the City Clerk.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

This Resolution is establishing an item of revenue for the FY24 Municipal Budget in the amount of $170,000.00 and an appropriation of an equal amount for the purchase of surveillance cameras to address violent crimes. The Center for Justice Innovation is providing these funds. The project period is from November 2, 2021 through September 30, 2024 (Citywide).
