                                           WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution 7R5-a adopted on October 5, 2022, the City of Newark’s (hereinafter, “City”) Department of Health and Community Wellness (hereinafter, “DHCW”) accepted a multi-year sub-award from Seton Hall University (“Seton Hall”) for the expansion and strengthening of the nurse workforce for integrated health in vulnerable populations; and

 

WHEREAS, since the initial award, Seton Hall has been awarded additional funds from the United States Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) and subsequently amended the sub-award given to the City; and

 

                     WHEREAS, Seton Hall has received additional grant funds in the amount of Three Hundred Six Thousand Nine Hundred Fifty Five Dollars and Zero Cents ($306,955.00) and wishes to amend the sub-award to the City and extend the grant period through June 30, 2025 (a copy of the sub-award amendments are attached hereto and made a part hereof); and

 

 

 

 

WHEREAS, the Director of the DHCW desires to accept said grant funds; and

WHEREAS, no matching funds from the City are required in the acceptance of this grant award; and

 

WHEREAS, the City recognizes that Seton Hall may extend the time of the grant award and/or provide additional funds when it becomes available; and 

 

WHEREAS, Seton Hall may amend the grant to reflect any time extension and/or increase or decrease of grant funds, as appropriate and which shall be subject to approval by the Municipal Council by resolution; and

 

WHEREAS, the terms of this grant award may only be waived or amended by the parties duly authorized to execute the grant, subject to the approval of the Municipal Council by resolution.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The Mayor, and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, are hereby authorized to accept and expend additional grant funds from Seton Hall University College of Nursing, 400 South Orange Avenue, South Orange, New Jersey 07079, in the amount of Three Hundred Six Thousand Nine Hundred Fifty Five Dollars and Zero Cents ($306,955.00), to expand and strengthen the nurse workforce for integrated health in vulnerable populations and extend the grant award period from June 30, 2024 to June 30, 2025 ( a copy of the amended sub-awards are attached hereto and made a part hereof).

 

 

 

 

2.                     The Municipal Council hereby ratifies its authorization of the electronic acceptance necessary to accept the sub-award amendments from the date of the amendments to the date of adoption of this authorizing Resolution.

 

 

 

3.                     The Mayor of the City of Newark, and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, are hereby authorized to receive and expend the sub-award for the continued expansion and strengthening of the nurse workforce for integrated health in vulnerable populations to the City of Newark and surrounding areas for the period which commenced on July 1, 2022 and shall terminate on June 30, 2025.       

 

4.                     The Department of Health and Community Wellness shall, upon any extension of time of the grant and/or upon any increase or decrease of the grant funds, submit to the Municipal Council for its consideration an amending Resolution reflecting the final time and amount of the awarded grant.

 

5.                     No municipal matching funds are required for the receipt or acceptance of this grant award. 

 

STATEMENT

 

This Resolution authorizes and ratifies the actions taken by the Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of Department of Health and Community Wellness to accept additional grant funds in the amount of Three Hundred Six Thousand Nine Hundred Fifty Five Dollars and Zero Cents ($306,955.00) and extend the grant period through June 30,2025  for the continued expansion and strengthening of the nurse workforce for integrated health in vulnerable population to the City of Newark and surrounding areas. No municipal matching funds are required for the receipt or acceptance of these grant funds.
