WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution #7R10-b, adopted on June 2, 2011, the Municipal Council of the City of Newark authorized the Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of Neighborhood & Recreational Services, to apply for and accept from the USA Swimming Foundation/New Jersey Regional Youth Development Project, Make a Splash Foundation, a grant award in the amount of $80,000.00 for the purpose of providing water safety education and swimming lessons to 1,000 City of Newark children 4-17 years of age from all wards for the period commencing on April 12, 2011, and terminating on December 9, 2011; and
WHEREAS, said Resolution further authorized the Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of Neighborhood & Recreational Services, to enter into and execute all grant documentation necessary to receive said grant funds; and
WHEREAS, said grant documentation was, in fact, executed, and as of December 29, 2011, the City of Newark had received $53,200.00 of said grant funds, and remained eligible to receive the $26,800.00 balance of grant funds provided that the grant period was extended; and
WHEREAS, in accordance with the extension letter attached hereto, the USA Swimming Foundation/New Jersey Regional Youth Development Project, Make a Splash Foundation approved an extension of the grant period until February 29, 2012; and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark, Department of Neighborhood and Recreational Services recommends amending Resolution #7R10-b060211 so as to extend the grant period until February 29, 2012; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. Resolution 7R10-b060211 is hereby amended so as to extend the grant termination period referenced in said Resolution from December 9, 2011, until February 29, 2012, for the purpose of providing water safety education and swimming lessons to 4-17 year old children.
2. The Municipal Council of the City of Newark hereby authorizes and ratifies the extension of the grant period until February 29, 2012.
3. The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Neighborhood & Recreational Services, are hereby authorized to enter into and execute all documentation necessary to so extend the grant period, and any such actions already taken as of the date of adoption of this resolution are hereby ratified.
4. All other terms and conditions of the grant agreement in question shall remain the same.
5. The Director of the Department of Neighborhood & Recreational Services shall file a fully-executed copy of the documentation extending the grant period, and a copy of the extension letter, in the Office of the City Clerk.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE
This resolution authorizes and ratifies an amendment of Resolution 7R10-b060211 for the 2011 USA Swimming Foundation/New Jersey Regional Youth Development Project grant so as to extend the grant period until February 29, 2012.
