WHEREAS, New Jersey Transit’s Bus Safety Department conducted an investigation for proposed bus stop location changes due to safety concerns; and
WHEREAS, at the request of the Department of Engineering and review of the traffic operations by New Jersey Transit in conjunction with the City of Newark, Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals, and pursuant to N.J.S.A. 39:4-197(3)(a), the following described locations are added and deleted as a bus stop:
ADD BUS STOP:
1. In the West Ward, along South Orange Avenue, eastbound on the southerly side thereof:
a. Vermont Avenue, nearside.
Beginning at the westerly curb line of Vermont Avenue and extending 100ft westerly therefrom.
DELETED BUS STOP:
2. In the West Ward, along South Orange Avenue, eastbound on the southerly side thereof:
a. West End Avenue, nearside.
Beginning at the westerly curb line of West End Avenue and extending 100ft westerly therefrom.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 39:4-197(3)(a) of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey, a municipality may by ordinance, resolution or regulation designate, relocate or delete a bus stop.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. In the West Ward, the following described location is hereby relocated as a bus stop:
From: along South Orange Avenue eastbound on the southerly side at West End Avenue, nearside location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of West End Avenue and extending 100ft westerly therefrom.
To: along South Orange Avenue eastbound on the southerly side at Vermont Avenue nearside location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of Vermont Avenue and extending 100ft westerly therefrom.
2. No Municipal funds expended for this act.
3. No Amendment to this resolution without the approval of the Municipal Council.
4. Upon approval, the Director of the Department of Engineering will forward a copy of this resolution to the Office of the City Clerk to notify them of the Local Government’s approval for the relocation of a bus stop as stated.
5. Upon approval, a certified copy of this resolution shall be forwarded to New Jersey Transit to notify them of the Local Government’s approval for the relocation of a bus stop as stated.
6. Upon approval, a certified copy of this resolution shall be forwarded to Essex County, Department of Public Works to notify them of the Local Government’s approval for the relocation of a bus stop as stated.
7. Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 39:4-8 (e) of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey, the proposed bus stop relocation does not require New Jersey Department of Transportation’s approval.
STATEMENT
This resolution designates the relocation of a bus stop in the West Ward as follows:
From: along South Orange Avenue eastbound on the southerly side thereof at West End Avenue, at the nearside location, beginning at the westerly curb line of West End Avenue and extending 100ft westerly therefrom.
To: along South Orange Avenue eastbound on the southerly side thereof at Vermont Avenue, at the nearside location, beginning at the westerly curb line of Vermont Avenue and extending 100ft westerly therefrom.
