WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 40A:9-146 requires every municipality in the State of New Jersey to have a Tax Assessor who is to be appointed by the Mayor; and
WHEREAS, the Tax Assessor, who was tenured in his position, resigned as of June 26, 2018; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor of the City of Newark has determined that Aaron M. Wilson, who is a Certified Tax Assessor in the State of New Jersey, has the qualifications and experience to hold the position and perform the duties of Tax Assessor; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor is appointing Mr. Wilson to a term commencing on October 22, 2018 and ending June 30 2019, which is the unexpired term of the previous Tax Assessor; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor is appointing Mr. Wilson to a statutory 4-year term which shall commence on July 1, 2019 and continue until June 30, 2023.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Mayor of the City of Newark is appointing Aaron M. Wilson as the Tax Assessor for the City of Newark.
2. Mr. Wilson is completing the prior Tax Assessor’s term and is appointed as Tax Assessor for the City of Newark commencing on October 22, 2018 and ending on June 30, 2019.
3. Mr. Wilson’s statutory 4-year term appointment as Tax Assessor shall commence on July 1, 2019 and continue until June 30, 2023.
STATEMENT
This resolution is appointing Aaron M. Wilson to the position of Tax Assessor for the City of Newark. This appointment is to complete the prior Tax Assessor’s term from October 22, 2018 through June 30, 2019; and Mr. Wilson’s statutory 4-year term will commence on July 1, 2019 and continue until June 30, 2023.
