                       WHEREAS, Delta Dental of New Jersey Foundation, Inc., 1639 Route 10 Parsippany, New Jersey 07054 (“Delta Dental”) has made grant funds available through the SMILE Mini-Grants Program to provide oral health care to New Jersey’s uninsured residents and to improve oral health care challenges found in the Community; and

 

                     WHEREAS, on or about February 14, 2025, on behalf of the City of Newark (“City”), the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness (“DHCW”) submitted a grant application to Delta Dental (a copy of the grant application is attached hereto and made a part hereof); and

 

WHEREAS, as a result of the grant application, on or about April 27, 2026, Delta Dental awarded the City a multi-year grant in the amount of Ten Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($10,000.00), for the period of July 1, 2026 through June 30, 2027 (a copy of the executed Contract is attached hereto and made a part hereof); and

 

WHEREAS, the Director of the DHCW desires to accept said grant funds; and

 

WHEREAS, the City recognizes that Delta Dental may extend the grant period and/or provide additional funds when it becomes available; and 

 

WHEREAS, the terms of this Grant Award may only be waived or amended by the parties duly authorized to execute the grant, subject to the approval of the Municipal Council by resolution.

 

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

 

1.                     The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, are hereby authorized to submit a grant application to Delta Dental of New Jersey Foundation, Inc., 1639 Route 10 Parsippany, New Jersey 07054 (“Delta Dental”), requesting grant funding to provide oral health care to New Jersey’s uninsured residents and to improve oral health care challenges found in the Community.

 

2.                     The Municipal Council hereby ratifies its authorization of this grant application from the date of application’s submission to the date of adoption of this authorizing Resolution.

 

3.                     The resulting grant award in the amount of Ten Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($10,000.00), from Delta Dental is hereby accepted (a copy of the Contract is attached hereto and made a part hereof).   

 

4.                     The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, are hereby authorized to file the electronic acceptance necessary to accept the grant award.

 

5.                     The Municipal Council hereby ratifies the acceptance of this grant award from the date that the electronic acceptance was filed to the date of adoption of this authorizing Resolution.

 

6.                     The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, are hereby authorized to receive and expend the grant award for the period commencing on July 1, 2026 and terminating on June 30, 2027.

 

7.                     The Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness shall, upon any extension of time of the grant and/or upon any increase or decrease of the grant funds, submit to the Municipal Council for its consideration an amending resolution reflecting the final time and amount of the awarded grant.

 

8. The director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness shall file a copy of a fully executed Grant agreement, Grant Application and Notice of Award in the office of the City Clerk.

                     

9. No Municipal matching funds are required for the receipt or acceptance of this Gant Award.

 

 

 

STATEMENT

 

 

This Resolution authorizes and ratifies the actions taken by the Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of Health and Community Wellness, to apply for and accept grant funds in the amount of Ten Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($10,000.00), from Delta Dental of New Jersey Foundation, Inc., 1639 Route 10 Parsippany, New Jersey 07054 to provide oral health care to New Jersey’s uninsured residents and to improve oral health care challenges found in the Community, for the period commencing on July 1, 2026 and terminating June 30, 2027. No matching Municipal funds are required for the receipt or acceptance of these grant funds.
