WHEREAS, the Department of Health and Community Wellness provides immunization services to increase immunization coverage levels for children and adults through the Immunization Action Plan/Project Vaccinate Program in the City of Newark (hereinafter the “City”); and
WHEREAS, the State of New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), Vaccine Preventable Disease Program, has made additional funds available for the provision of such services through the Immunization 2020-2021 Grant; and
WHEREAS, on September 2, 2020, the Municipal Council adopted Resolution 7R5-B which ratified and authorized the Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, to apply for and accept State Funds from the NJDOH Vaccine Preventable Disease Program in the amount of $167,800.00, for the period of July 1, 2020 through June 30, 2021; and
WHEREAS, on November 23, 2020 NJDOH notified the City of Newark of an additional award of $352,200.00 for the sole purpose increasing immunization activities in the City; and
WHEREAS, the City seeks to amend Resolution 7R5-B adopted on September 2, 2020 increasing total FFY 2020-2021 Immunization Grant to $520,000.00; and
WHEREAS, the City’s Department of Health and Community Wellness, desires to accept additional funds in the amount of $520,000.00 for the sole purpose increasing immunization activities; and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes that NJDOH may extend the time of the Grant Award and/or provide additional funds, if made available; and
WHEREAS, the City will amend the accepting resolution to reflect the extension of the grant period and/or increase or decrease of any additional funds, if made available.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. Resolution 7R5-B, adopted on September 2, 2020, is amended to increase the overall FFY 2020-2021 Immunization Grant funding from $167,800.00 to $520,000.00.
2. The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, are authorized to accept additional grant funding in the amount of $520,000.00, from the New Jersey Department of Health, Vaccine Preventable Disease Program, P.O. Box 364, Trenton, New Jersey 08625-0364, for FFY 2020-2021 Immunization Grant for the sole purpose increasing immunization activities.
3. The grant award in the amount of $325,200.00 from NJDOH is hereby accepted.
4. The Municipal Council ratifies the acceptance of this grant award from July 1, 2020 to the date of adoption of this authorizing resolution.
5. No municipal funds are required for receipt or acceptance of this grant award.
6. The Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness will file a copy of the grant award letter in the Office of the City Clerk.
STATEMENT
This Resolution ratifies and authorizes the Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, to accept additional funds in the amount of $352,200.00 from the New Jersey Department of Health, Vaccine Preventable Disease Program for the sole purpose of increasing immunization activities for the period commencing on July 1, 2020 and terminating on June 30, 2021. No municipal funds are required for receipt or acceptance of the grant award.
