WHEREAS, the City of Newark’s (The “City”) Department of Health and Community Wellness (“DHCW”) provides nutritional services, nutritional education, immunization screening and education, voter registration, and family care enrollment through the Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women Infants and Children (WIC); and
WHEREAS, on January 7, 2026, the Municipal Council adopted Resolution 7R5-a which authorized the Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the DHCW, to apply for and accept grant funds from the State of New Jersey, Department of Health, Division of Family Health Services (“NJDOH”), for the provision of Supplemental Nutrition Services for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program in the City of Newark in the amount of Two Million Two Hundred Sixty Eight Thousand, Five Hundred Fourteen Dollars and Zero Cents ($2,268,514.00); and
WHEREAS, on July 10, 2026, NJDOH notified the City of Newark of an increase in Grant Funds in the amount of Two Thousand and Zero Cents ($2,000.00) (“Additional Funds”) for the sole purpose of activities related to breast feeding; and
WHEREAS, the City’s, DHCW, desires to accept the Additional Funds in the amount of Two Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($2,000.00) for the sole purpose of breast-feeding activities; and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes that NJDOH may extend the time of the Grant Award and/or provide additional funds, if made available; and
WHEREAS, the City’s DHCW file an amending resolution, reflecting the final time and award amount of the grant; and
WHEREAS, all other terms and conditions of the Grant Agreement will remain the same.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. Resolution 7R5-a, adopted on January 7, 2026, is hereby amended to accept additional Grant Funds from the State of New Jersey, Department of Health, Division of Family Health Services, for the provision of Supplemental Nutrition Services for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program in the amount of Two Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($2,000.00) (“Additional Funds”), increasing the total grant amount from Two Million Two Hundred Sixty Eight Thousand, Five Hundred Fourteen Dollars and Zero Cents ($2,268,514.00) to Two Million Two Hundred Seventy Thousand Five Hundred Fourteen Dollars and Zero Cents ($2, 270,514.00).
2. The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, are authorized to accept additional grant funding.
3. The Grant Award in the amount of Two Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($2,000.00) from NJDOH is hereby accepted.
4. The Municipal Council ratifies the acceptance of the additional Grant Funds in the amount of Two Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($2,000.00) from July 1, 2026 to the date of adoption of this Authorizing Resolution.
5. All other Terms and Conditions of the Grant Agreement shall remain the same.
6. All other provisions of Resolution 7R5-a adopted on January 7, 2026 shall remain the same.
7. No municipal funds are required for receipt or acceptance of this Grant Award.
8. The Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness shall file a copy of the Grant Award letter in the Office of the City Clerk.
STATEMENT
This Resolution amends Resolution 7R5-a, adopted on January 7, 2026 to accept additional Grant Funds in the amount of Two Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($2,000.00) for an amended total Grant Amount of Two Million Two Hundred Seventy Thousand Five Hundred Fourteen Dollars and Zero Cents ($2,270,514.00) from State of New Jersey, Department of Health, Division of Family Health Services, for the provision of Supplemental Nutrition Services for Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program for the sole purpose of breast-feeding activities for the period commencing on October 1, 2025 and terminating on September 30, 2026. No municipal funds are required for receipt or acceptance of the grant award.
