WHEREAS, the City of Newark (the “City”) sought funding to create green spaces for residents at the Hope Village II, a new housing development at 51-63 Elizabeth Avenue in the South Ward of Newark, which will provide twenty (20) chronically homeless Newark residents with transitional housing, meals, and supportive services; and
WHEREAS, on November 7, 2023, the Director of the Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services, on behalf of the City, submitted an application to The Nature Conservancy, with offices at 200 Pottersville Road, Chester, New Jersey 07930, for grant funds to purchase trees and shrubs for the Bridge Housing Community; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the grant application and pursuant to the selection and approval of The Nature Conservancy, the City was awarded a grant in the amount of Twenty-Eight Thousand Fifty Dollars and Zero Cents ($28,050.00) to purchase trees and shrubs for Comes As You Are: Bridge Housing Community (the “Project”); and
WHEREAS, effective November 8, 2024, The Nature Conservancy awarded the Department of Health and Community Wellness (“DHCW”) additional grant funds in the amount of Eight Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($8,000.00) for the Project to be charged to Project activities for the period commencing on January 1, 2024 through November 30, 2025 (a copy of The Nature Conservancy Letter of Amendment is attached hereto and made a part hereof); and
WHEREAS, the City’s DHCW, desires to accept additional funds in the amount of Eight Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($8,000.00) for the Project, which additional funds increase the total grant amount to Thirty-Six Thousand Fifty Dollars and Zero Cents ($36,050.00); and
WHEREAS, the City recognizes that the Nature Conservancy, may further extend the time of the Grant Award and/or provide additional funds, if made available; and
WHEREAS, the Nature Conservancy, will amend the grant to reflect the extension of the grant period and/or increase or decrease additional funds, if made available.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Mayor and/or his designee, the Department of Health and Community Wellness, are hereby authorized to enter into an amendment to the grant agreement authorized by Resolution 7R7-a 04102024 and to accept additional grant funds in the amount of Eight Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($8,000.00) from The Nature Conservancy (with offices at 200 Pottersville Road, Chester, New Jersey 07930), for the maintenance and upkeep of the purchased trees and shrubs at Hope Village ll.
2. The additional grant funds in the amount of Eight Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($8,000.00) from The Nature Conservancy is hereby accepted.
3. The amendment to the grant agreement is hereby ratified from the date of its execution to the date of adoption of this resolution.
4. No municipal funds are required for acceptance or receipt of this grant award.
STATEMENT
This Resolution ratifies and authorizes the Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, to enter into and execute an amendment to a grant agreement authorized by Resolution 7R7-a 04/10/2024 and to accept additional grant funding in the amount of Eight Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($8,000.00), from The Nature Conservancy to purchase trees and shrubs for Hope Village ll: Housing Community.
