This Resolution authorizes the City of Newark to apply for grant funding in the amount of $568,168.00 from the NJDOT Local Aid Infrastructure Fund for Street Resurfacing, with no municipal funds required.

WHEREAS, the City of Newark ("City") wishes to improve its streets for the traveling public and its residents alike; and
WHEREAS, the Local Aid Infrastructure Fund is a New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Program, which provides funds to governmental entities so they may substantially improve the safety and usability of local transportation infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, various roads throughout the City need improvement, including drainage, American with Disabilities Act ramp installation, resurfacing, crosswalks and pavement markings; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to obtain funding from the NJDOT Local Aid Infrastructure Fund for its Street Resurfacing - City Districts Paving Project; and
WHEREAS, on or about June 30, 2026, on the City's behalf, the Acting Director of the Department of Engineering submitted an application to NJDOT requesting grant funding in the amount of Five Hundred Thirty-Six Thousand One Hundred Sixty-Eight Dollars and Zero Cents ($536,168.00) from the NJDOT Local Aid Infrastructure Fund for Street Resurfacing, identified as application City Districts Paving Project for the City of Newark, with no City funds required; and
WHEREAS, as a part of the grant application, a copy of which is attached hereto, the City must submit a Municipal Council Resolution authorizing submission of the grant application.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee, the Acting Director of the Department of Engineering, are hereby authorized to submit an electronic grant application identified as City Districts Paving Project on behalf of the City of Newark, to the New Jersey Department of Transportation requesting grant funding in the amount of Five Hundred Thirty Six Thousand One Hundred Sixty-Eight Dollars and Zero Cents ($536,168.00) from the NJDOT Local Aid Infrastructure Fund for Street Resurfacing - City Districts Paving Project (a copy of the application is attached hereto and made a part hereof).
2. The Municipal Council hereby ratifies its authorization of this application from the date of application submission to the date of adoption of this authorizing application.
3. The Acting Director of the Department of Engineering shall file a copy of the grant application in the Office of the City Clerk.
STATEMENT
This Resolution authorizes the Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee, the Acting Director of the Department of Engineering, to submit an electronic grant application for grant funding in the amount of $536,168.00 from the NJDOT Local Aid Infrastructure Fund for Street Resurfacing Newark City Districts Paving Project. No municipal funds are required.
