Whereas, Ordinance 6PSF-f adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Alejandro “Alex” Rosa, Jr. was born October 3, 1964 in San Sebastian, Puerto Rico and at the early age of five (7) immigrated to Newark, New Jersey; and
WHEREAS, a proud graduate of Barringer High School and a devoted “car enthusiast and aficionado”, “Alex” attended Lincoln Tech seeking a career in auto mechanics before changing course. Deeply community-minded and concerned resident, he joined the Newark Police Department as a member of the 1995 Class 102, the City’s largest recruitment class at that time; and
WHEREAS, during his long and distinguished career, Police Officer Rosa, was a “Cop’s Cop”, his attitude, commitment and selfless service to the Newark community he so beloved, is a testament to the countless number of Police officers who joined the ranks of the Newark Police Department as a direct result of his efforts, including his son and five (5) nephews.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Bloomfield Avenue and Lake Street as “Alex Rosa Way”.
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Bloomfield Avenue and Lake Street in their entirety.

This Resolution authorizes the naming of the intersection of Bloomfield Avenue and Lake Street as “Alex Rosa Way”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
