WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PDF-e, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes;

 

WHEREAS, Pastor Carmen Roman, an electrician by trade and owner of his own small business, Roman and Roman in Norman, Oklahoma, was called to preach the ministry full-time in July 1999 and served as the Spanish ministry Pastor of Calvary Temple; and

 

WHEREAS, In 2002, Pastor Roman returned to the City of Newark, where he became the Founding Pastor of the Temple Rock of My Salvation, a daughter church of Calvary Temple; and 

 

WHEREAS, upon his return he quickly ingrained himself in the community by not only preaching the word of God, but also teaching, mentoring, equipping and inspiring other leaders.  In addition, he served his beloved City, as the Spanish Presbyter of the New Jersey District and Chaplain of the City of Newark; and 

 

WHEREAS, the Governing Body is seeking to maintain the legacy of Pastor Carmelo Roman by honoring his many years of community service to the City of Newark.

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1. The Municipal Council does hereby authorize the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Irving Street and Broadway as “Pastor Carmen Roman Way”.

 

2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Irving Street and Broadway in their entirety.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

This resolution authorizes the naming of the intersection of Irving Street and Broadway “Pastor Carmen Roman Way”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
