This Resolution authorizes the City of Newark to apply for grant funding from the NJDOT 2024 Local Transportation Projects Fund Program.

WHEREAS, the City of Newark (the “City”) wishes to improve its streets for the traveling public and its residents alike; and
WHEREAS, the Local Transportation Projects Fund is an New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Program, which provides funds to governmental entities so they may substantially improve the safety and usability of local transportation infrastructure; and
WHEREAS, the City needs to improve various roads that include drainage, ADA ramps, resurfacing, crosswalks and pavement markings throughout the City; and
WHEREAS, the City desires to further the public interest by obtaining funding from the NJDOT Local Transportation Projects Fund 2024 Program for the LTPF-2024 Municipal 2024 Transportation Improvement 00096 Project within the City; and
WHEREAS, on behalf of the City, the Acting Director of the Department of Engineering will submit an application for the NJDOT Local Transportation Projects Fund 2024 Program for the LTPF-2024 Municipal 2024 Transportation Improvement-00096 Project for the City with no municipal funds required; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to the terms of the grant application, the City of Newark is required to submit a resolution from the Municipal Council authorizing submission of the grant application.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council hereby affirms this Resolution of Support for the City of Newark, Department of Engineering, Division of Traffic and Signals’ application to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) Local Transportation Projects Fund 2024 to fund the LTPF-2024 Municipal 2024 Transportation Improvement 00096 project within the City of Newark.
2. The Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee, the Acting Director of the Department of Engineering, are hereby authorized to submit an electronic grant application identified as LTPF-2024 Municipal 2024 Transportation Improvement 00096 to the New Jersey Department of Transportation for funding under the Local Transportation Projects Fund Program, with no municipal funds required.
STATEMENT
This Resolution authorizes the Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee, the Acting Director of the Department of Engineering, to submit an electronic grant application identified as LTPF-2024 Municipal 2024 Transportation Improvement 00096, to the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT), for funding under the Local Transportation Projects Fund Program within the City of Newark. No municipal funds are required.
