WHEREAS, Ordinance 6PSF-f, adopted on May 20, 2015, authorizes the designation of an intersection, etc. for honorary and ceremonial purposes; and
WHEREAS, Julio A. Quinones was born on January 10, 1932, in Yauco, Puerto Rico, and has resided in the City of Newark, New Jersey, since 1950; and
WHEREAS, Julio A. Quinones has worked and served three (3) Administrations within the City of Newark under Mayor, Hugh J. Addonizio from 1952-1970, Mayor Kenneth A. Gibson from 1970-1986 and Mayor Sharpe James from 1986-1997, while working in the Newark Police Department as an interpreter and thereafter with the Department of Water and Sewer Utilities; and
WHEREAS, Julio A. Quinones has always served the Newark community beginning in the 1960’s, he started the first little league baseball league, in 1967 assisted a plan of action to create the F.O.C.U.S. organization to assist the underprivileged Hispanic population and was Grand Marshall of the Puerto Rican Day Parade in 1973. Mr. Quinones now spends time with his wife Mary of sixty-six (66) years of marriage, watching television and enjoying his family.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Municipal Council hereby authorizes the honorary and ceremonial renaming of the intersection of Parkhurst Street and McCarter Highway, as “Julio A. Quinones Way.”
2. The official name of the said streets shall remain Parkhurst Street and McCarter Highway in their entirety.

This resolution authorizes the renaming of the intersection of Parkhurst Street and McCarter Highway, as “Julio A. Quinones Way”, for honorary and ceremonial purposes.
