                     WHEREAS, an emergency has arisen in the Special Item of Appropriation in the amount of One Million Eighty-Four Thousand Six Hundred Three Dollars and Sixty-Three Cents ($1,084,603.63) for the FY 2023 Assistance to Firefighters Grant and no adequate provision has been made in the 2025 Temporary Budget for the aforesaid purpose; and

 

WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 40A:4-20 provides for the creation of an emergency appropriation for the purpose above-mentioned; and

 

                     WHEREAS, by the Notice of Award dated September 19, 2024, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security awarded the City of Newark funds for One Million Eighty-Four Thousand Six Hundred Three Dollars and Sixty-Three Cents ($1,084,603.63) with a cash match of One Hundred-Eight Thousand Four Hundred-Sixty Dollars and Thirty-seven Cents ($108,460.37), totaling One Million One Hundred Ninety-Three Sixty-Four Dollars and Zero cent ($1,193,064.00). The aforementioned program will provide funds for the purchase of 2 or more fire trucks to augment the City of Newark’s fleet and to respond to calls throughout the city; and

 

                     WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 40A: 4-20 provides that the Governing Body, by a two-thirds vote, may make temporary emergency appropriations for any purpose for which appropriations may lawfully be made for the period between the beginning of the current fiscal year and the date of the adoption of the budget for said year; and

 

                     WHEREAS, emergency appropriation adopted in 2025, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A: 4-20 including this Resolution total…………………$ 14,750,451.83.

 

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, no less than two-thirds of the members thereof concurring, THAT:

 

1.                      A temporary emergency appropriation be and the same is hereby made for the following classification.

2.                     The temporary emergency appropriation shall be provided for in the 2025 budget.

 

3.                     A copy of this Resolution shall be filed with the Director of Local Government Services by the City Clerk.

 

STATEMENT

 

This Resolution establishes the temporary emergency appropriation for the FY 2023 Assistance to Firefighters Grant in the amount of $1,084,603.63. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security awarded the funds. [The project period is September 26, 2024 through September 25, 2026.
