WHEREAS, the City of Newark’s (“City”) Department of Health and Community Wellness provides childhood lead exposure prevention services for children six (6) months through children younger than seventeen (17) years of age under the Childhood Lead Exposure Prevention (CLEP) Program; and
WHEREAS, the New Jersey Department of Health, has made grant funds available to address blood lead levels between 3.5-4.9 ug/dL and conduct outreach to families.; and
WHEREAS, on or about February 23, 2024, the City was notified of additional grant funds in the amount of Twelve Thousand Five Hundred Dollars and Zero Cents ($12,500.00) (a copy of the Letter of Amendment is attached hereto and made a part hereof); and
WHEREAS, the City’s Department of Health and Community Wellness desires to accept funds in the amount of Twelve Thousand Five Hundred Dollars and Zero Cents ($12,500.00); and
WHEREAS, no matching funds from the City are required in the acceptance of the additional funds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Mayor of the City of Newark (“City”) and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, are hereby authorized to accept additional funds from the New Jersey Department of Health, P.O. Box 360, Trenton, New Jersey 08625-0360, for the provisions to address blood lead levels between 3.5-4.9 ug/dL and conduct outreach to families.
2. A copy of the Letter of Amendment is attached hereto and made a part hereof.
3. The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, are hereby authorized to receive and expend the additional grant award from the New Jersey Department of Health, Childhood Lead Exposure Prevention (CLEP) Program, for the period commencing July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2024.
4. No matching or in-kind municipal funds are required for the acceptance of the additional grant funds.
5. The Municipal Council hereby ratifies the acceptance of this grant award from the date the electronic acceptance was filed to the date of adoption of this authorizing Resolution.
6. The Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness shall file a fully executed copy of the Letter of Amendment in the Office of the City Clerk.
STATEMENT
This Resolution ratifies and authorizes the actions taken by the Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, to amend the grant to accept additional grant funds in the amount of Twelve Thousand Five Hundred Dollars and Zero Cents ($12,500.00), to address blood lead levels between 3.5-4.9 ug/dL and conduct outreach to families, for the period commencing July 1, 2023 and terminating June 30, 2024. These funds shall be used exclusively for this project. No matching funds are required for the receipt or acceptance of these grant funds.
