Statue will be donated to the City and placed at Thomas Silk Park, 316-334 First Street, and will be maintained by the CENDA and Duartian Institute of Newark organizations.

                     WHEREAS, Centro Dominico-Americano of NJ and the Duartian Institute of Newark are considered New Jersey’s leading cultural organizations promoting the contributions and progress of immigrants hailing from the Dominican Republic; and 

 

                     WHEREAS, in tribute of their heritage here and abroad, they are desirous of having a monument of their “Founding Father” Juan Pablo Duarté, erected at a suitable location in Newark; and

 

                     WHEREAS, after several failed attempts at a suitable location, Thomas Silk Park, located at 316-334 First Street, has been selected as the ideal location.

 

                     NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:

 

1.                     The Mayor of the City of Newark, and /or his designee, the Business Administrator are authorized on behalf of the City, to accept the gift of the monumental statue of Juan Pablo Duarté from CENDA and the Duartian Institute of Newark, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 40A:5-29, to be displayed within the City of Newark.

 

2.                     The organizations relinquish all ownership rights to the City and shall remain in the possession of the City until it deems fit.

 

3.                     CENDA and the Duarté Institute of Newark shall provide maintenance of the statue and the grounds surrounding the statue with no financial assistance from the City.

 

4.                     No municipal funds will be expended for the acceptance of this gift.

 

 

 

                                                                                    STATEMENT

 

This Resolution authorizes the Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee, the Business Administrator, to accept the gift of the monumental statue of Juan Pablo Duarté from CENDA and the Duartian Institute of Newark with no municipal funds to be expended.
