The Department of Engineering originally requested $393,000.00 in its July 6, 2020 grant application from the New Jersey Department of Transportation, Safe Streets to Transit Program.
This Resolution will amend Resolution 7R3-c, adopted on August 5, 2020 to accept $300,000.00 in grant funding.

WHEREAS, the New Jersey Department of Transportation's ("NJDOT") for the 2021 Safe Streets to Transit Program (SST Program) provides grant funding for infrastructure improvements for traditional and non-traditional initiatives that enable and encourage walking and bicycling to transit; and
WHEREAS, on July 6, 2020, on behalf of the City of Newark, the Director of the Department of Engineering submitted an electronic grant application to NJDOT requesting grant funding in the amount of Three Hundred Ninety-Three Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($393,000.00) from the New Jersey Department of Transportation's 2021 SST Program to improve the intersection at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, Sussex Avenue and Central Avenue with no City funds required; and
WHEREAS, as a result of the above application, the City of Newark received notice on February 4, 2021 (a copy of the NJDOT approval letter is attached hereto and made a part hereof), that it has been awarded a grant in the amount of Three Hundred Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($300,000.00) from New Jersey Department of Transportation's 2021 SST Program with no City funds required; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering wants to amend Resolution 7R3-c, adopted on August 5, 2020, to authorize the execution of an Agreement with NJDOT and accept grant funds in the amount of Three Hundred thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($300,000.00) from the New Jersey Department of Transportation's Safe Streets to Transit Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. Resolution 7R3-c, adopted on August 5, 2020, is hereby amended to authorize the Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Engineering, to accept the grant award in the amount of Three Hundred Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($300,000.00) from the New Jersey Department of Transportation's Safe Streets to Transit Program (a copy of the NJDOT grant award approval letter is attached hereto and made a part hereof).
2. The Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee, the Acting Director of the Department of Engineering are hereby authorized to enter into and execute grant documents with the NJDOT to receive and expend the grant award in the amount of Three Hundred Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($300,000.00), from the New Jersey Department of Transportation's Safe Streets to Transit Program.
3. No municipal funds are required for receipt or acceptance of this grant award.
4. The Acting Director of the Department of Engineering shall file a fully executed copy of the grant application, the grant award letter, the final authorization letter, and the grant/project agreement in the Office of the City Clerk.
STATEMENT
This Resolution amends Resolution 7R3-c adopted on August 5, 2020 and authorizes the Mayor of the City of Newark and/or his designee, the Acting Director of the Department of Engineering to accept the grant award in the amount of $300,000.00, from the New Jersey Department of Transportation's Safe Streets to Transit Program.
