WHEREAS, the Department of Health and Community Wellness provides immunization services to increase immunization coverage levels for children and adults through the Immunization Action Plan/Project Vaccinate Program in the City of Newark (hereinafter the “City”); and
WHEREAS, the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), Vaccine Preventable Disease Program, P.O. Box 369, Trenton, New Jersey 08625, has made additional funds available for the provision of such services through the Immunization 2026 Grant; and
WHEREAS, on October 22, 2025, the Municipal Council adopted Resolution 7R5-a which ratified and authorized the Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness (“DHCW”), to apply for and accept State Funds from the NJDOH Vaccine Preventable Disease Program in the amount of Three Hundred Eighty-Eight Thousand Dollars and Zero Cents ($388,000.00), for the period of July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026; and
WHEREAS, as on April 20, 2026, NJDOH notified DHCW of an award of additional funds in the amount of Thirty-Seven Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars and Zero Cents ($37,800.00), for the immunization program for the Grant Period commencing on July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026, thereby increasing the Grant Amount to Four Hundred Twenty-Five Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars and Zero Cents ($425,800.00) (a copy of NJDOH Notice of Grant Award is attached hereto and made a part hereof); and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark, Department of Health and Community Wellness, desires to accept the additional funds in the amount Thirty-Seven Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars and Zero Cents ($37,800); and
WHEREAS, the City of Newark recognizes that the NJDOH, Vaccine Preventable Disease Program, may extend the time of the Grant Award and/or provide additional funds, if made available; and
WHEREAS, the NJDOH, Vaccine Preventable Disease Program, will amend the Grant to reflect the extension of the grant period and/or increase or decrease additional funds, if made available.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Mayor and/or his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, are hereby authorized to accept additional funds in the amount of Thirty-Seven Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars and Zero Cents ($37,800.00), from the New Jersey Department of Health, P.O. Box 360, Trenton, New Jersey 08625-0360 (NJDOH), Vaccine Preventable Disease Program, for the Immunization 2026 Grant to continue support of immunization program for the Grant Period of July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026, thereby increasing the Grant Amount to Four Hundred Twenty-Five Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars and Zero Cents ($425,800.00).
2. The Municipal Council hereby ratifies it’s the acceptance of additional funds from April 20,2026 to the date of adoption of this authorizing Resolution.
3. The Municipal Council hereby ratifies the acceptance of this Grant Award from July 1, 2025 to the date of adoption of this authorizing Resolution.
4. The Grant Award in the amount of Four Hundred Twenty-Five Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars and Zero Cents ($425,800.00) from the NJDOH, Vaccine Preventable Disease Program, is hereby accepted.
5. No municipal funds are required for receipt or acceptance of this Grant Award.
STATEMENT
This Resolution ratifies and authorizes the Mayor and or/his designee, the Director of the Department of Health and Community Wellness, to amend Resolution 7R5-a adopted on October 22, 2025, to accept additional funds in the amount of Thirty-Seven Thousand Eight Hundred Dollars and Zero Cents ($37,800.00) from the New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), P.O. Box 360, Trenton, New Jersey 08625-0360, Vaccine Preventable Disease Program, for the Immunization 2026 Grant to continue support of the immunization program for the Grant Period of July 1, 2025 through June 30, 2026. No municipal funds are required for receipt or acceptance of the Grant Award.
