WHEREAS, pursuant to N.J.S.A. 2B:12-4, the Mayor of the City of Newark, with the advice and consent of the Newark Municipal Council, is authorized to appoint Judges of the Municipal Court for a term of three (3) years; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor desires to nominate the Honorable Victoria F. Pratt as Judge of the Municipal Court of the City of Newark for a term commencing November 1, 2026, and expiring October 31, 2029; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor further desires to designate the Honorable Victoria F. Pratt as Chief Judge of the Municipal Court of the City of Newark, concurrent with her appointment as Judge of the Newark Municipal Court; and
WHEREAS, the Members of the Newark Municipal Council desire to confirm the nomination made by the Mayor of the City of Newark and approve the appointment and designation of the Honorable Victoria F. Pratt as Judge and Chief Judge of the Municipal Court of the City of Newark; and
WHEREAS, the Honorable Victoria F. Pratt is qualified in all respects to hold the positions of Judge and Chief Judge of the Municipal Court of the City of Newark.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. The Honorable Victoria F. Pratt is hereby appointed Judge of the Municipal Court of the City of Newark, effective November 1, 2026, for a term of three (3) years, expiring October 31, 2029.
2. The Honorable Victoria F. Pratt is hereby designated Chief Judge of the Municipal Court of the City of Newark, effective November 1, 2026, for a term concurrent with her appointment as Judge of the Municipal Court, expiring October 31, 2029.
3. The annual salary for this position shall be in accordance with the Ordinance setting compensation for a Municipal Court Judge serving as Chief Judge of the Municipal Court of the City of Newark.
STATEMENT
This Resolution appoints the Honorable Victoria F. Pratt as Judge of the Municipal Court of the City of Newark for a three (3) year term commencing November 1, 2026, and expiring October 31, 2029, and concurrently designates her as Chief Judge of the Municipal Court of the City of Newark.
