WHEREAS, New Jersey Transit’s Bus Safety Department conducted an investigation for proposed bus stop location changes due to safety concerns; and
[ WHEREAS, the Department of Engineering, upon the request of New Jersey Transit, reviewed the traffic operations by New Jersey Transit in conjunction with the City of Newark, Division of Traffic and Signals, and pursuant to N.J.S.A 39:4-197(3)(a), the following described locations are added and deleted as bus stops:
ADD BUS STOP:
1. In the South Ward, along West Peddie Street, eastbound on the southerly side thereof:
a. Jelliff Avenue, farside.
Beginning at the easterly curb line of Jelliff Avenue and extending 100ft easterly therefrom.
b. Johnson Avenue, nearside.
Beginning at the westerly curb line of Johnson Avenue and extending 105ft westerly therefrom.
DELETED BUS STOP:
2. In the South Ward, along Hawthorne Avenue, eastbound on the southerly side thereof:
a. Peshine Avenue, nearside.
Beginning at the westerly curb line of Peshine Avenue and extending 105ft westerly therefrom.
3. In the South Ward, along West Peddie Street, eastbound on the southerly side thereof:
a. Ridgewood Avenue, nearside.
Beginning at the westerly curb line of Ridgewood Avenue and extending 105ft westerly therefrom.
b. Elizabeth Avenue, nearside. Beginning at the westerly curb line of Elizabeth Avenue and extending 105ft westerly therefrom.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 39:4-197(3)(a) of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey, a municipality may by ordinance, resolution or regulation designate or delete a bus stop.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MUNICIPAL COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, THAT:
1. In the South Ward, the following described locations are hereby added and deleted as bus stops:
Add: along West Peddie Street eastbound on the southerly side at Jelliff Avenue farside location. Beginning at the easterly curb line of Jelliff Avenue and extending 100ft easterly therefrom.
Add: along Johnson Avenue, nearside.
Beginning at the westerly curb line of Johnson Avenue and extending 105ft westerly therefrom.
Delete: along Hawthorne Avenue eastbound on the southerly side at Peshine Avenue nearside location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of Peshine Avenue and extending 105ft westerly therefrom.
Delete: along West Peddie Street eastbound on the southerly side at Ridgewood Avenue nearside location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of Ridgewood Avenue and extending 105ft westerly therefrom.
Delete: along West Peddie Street eastbound on the southerly side at Elizabeth Avenue nearside location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of Elizabeth Avenue and extending 105ft westerly therefrom.
2. No Municipal funds need to be expended for this act.
3. No Amendment will be made to this resolution without the approval of the Municipal Council of the City of Newark.
4. Upon approval, the Director of the Department of Engineering will forward a copy of this resolution to the City Clerk’s Office to notify them of the Local Government’s approval for the additions and deletions of a bus stop as stated.
5. Upon approval, a certified copy of this resolution shall be forwarded to New Jersey Transit to notify them of the Local Government’s approval for the additions and deletions of a bus stop as stated.
6. Pursuant to N.J.S.A. 39:4-8 (e) of Title 39 of the Revised Statutes of New Jersey, the proposed bus stop additions and deletions does not require New Jersey Department of Transportation’s approval.
STATEMENT
This resolution designates and deletes bus stops in the South Ward as follows:
Add: along West Peddie Street eastbound on the southerly side thereof at Jelliff Avenue farside, beginning at the easterly curb line of Jelliff Avenue and extending 100ft easterly therefrom.
Add: along West Peddie Street eastbound on the southerly side thereof at Johnson Avenue nearside, beginning at the westerly curb line of Johnson Avenue and extending 105ft westerly therefrom.
Delete: along Hawthorne Avenue eastbound on the southerly side at Peshine Avenue nearside location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of Peshine Avenue and extending 105ft westerly therefrom.
Delete: along West Peddie Street eastbound on the southerly side at Ridgewood Avenue nearside location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of Ridgewood Avenue and extending 105ft westerly therefrom.
Delete: along West Peddie Street eastbound on the southerly side at Elizabeth Avenue nearside location. Beginning at the westerly curb line of Elizabeth Avenue and extending 105ft westerly therefrom.
